On April 6, 2018, Phillip Phillips brought The Magnetic Tour, along with his opening act, The Ballroom Thieves, to the sold out House of Blues in Chicago. The tour is in support of his much anticipated third album, Collateral, which was released on January 19, 2018 via 19R/Interscope. With Phillip Phillips, was his talented touring band, which included: Evan Penza on guitar; Elliott Blaufuss on keys and saxophone; Jared Jackson on bass and trumpet; and Jeff Randall on drums.

As Phillips walked on stage, he had his hands were held up high, as if to say, “Hello, Chicago! It’s great to be here!” The capacity audience cheered back in excitement, with a shout of “We love you!” heard from the audience. With a smile, Phillips seemed enthralled with Chicago’s beautifully ornamented music hall, continually looking all around, from the fans who arrived early and stood outside in the cold frigid air to be up front to those up in the second and third floor balconies.

Although the night’s set-list include a focus on songs from his recent album, he started out with a few songs from his previous two albums: The World from the Side of the Moon (2012) and Behind the Light (2014). He kicked off the show with “Man on the Moon,” followed by “Searchlight,” then “Gone, Gone, Gone.” Rolling into song four, was the same name of the tour, “Magnetic” which featuring Penza on guitar and Blaufuss on keys. The song had the audience singing along, “Na na na na na.” Various other songs, both new tracks and old favorites were performed to perfection, emphasizing the vocals of Phillips. The night’s set closed out with a rockin’ rendition of new song, “My Name.” From what appeared to be the original set-list for the night, the two encore were planned to be a solo by Phillips followed by a cover of Phil Collins’, “In the Air Tonight.” However, they changed it up with “A Fool’s Dance,” then a cover of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” with Phillips own twist on the song. Unfortunately, after much excitement, energy and singing, the show had to end. Leaving many fans singing parts of their favorite songs as they exited the venue.
