Circa Survive at The Vic Theatre in Chicago

November 3rd at The Vic, the Amulet Tour brought us Circa Survive headlining with special guests La Dispute and Queen of Jeans.

Queen of Jeans is up first and self describes themselves as, “crockpot pop, denimcore, “estrogen on ice” “. Up next was La Dispute, who have been moving the indie rock/post hardcore scene since 2004 with vocalist Jordan Dreyer’s thoughtful lyrics and frantic but clear vocal work. They always put on a moving performance.

Finally the crowd is ready for Circa Survive. The band takes the dark stage, starting the set with about 5 or 6 warm single bulb lights sparsely lighting the stage. Anthony Green’s haunting voice leads straight into “Lustration”. Circa is always great at creating an ebb and flow to their shows. From frantic hardcore all the way to hauntingly melodic indie rock, Green takes us on a journey with him. Throughout the set there appears mesmerizing colored light and projected patterns washing across the stage and over all the band members, highlighting the bands experimental flair.

Since the band formed in Philadelphia in 2004, they quickly made a name for themselves on the indie rock scene, to some extent because the group formed from members of other well known bands- Saosin, Taken, and This Day Forward.
