Elle King at The Vic in Chicago

On November 10, 2018, Elle King was busy with her tour stop in Chicago. Most of the time, it seems that artists don’t tour the city much.  Not Elle King.  Along with bringing her headlining “Shake the Spirit” tour that night at The Vic Theatre, she made a couple stops in the windy city.  Lucky winners gained  access to 93XRT’s Live from Studio X performance at secret location in Chicago.  The location turned out to be Schubas Tavern, where King performed a short acoustic set which included: “Shame”, “Ex’s and Oh’s” and “Baby Outlaw”. Definitely take some time to watch the Facebook Live video. Her Chicago visit wasn’t complete without visit to Chicago Music Exchange.  Adding to her equipment, she picked up a new bass guitar.

It was time for the show at The Vic Theatre. Fans cheered with excitement as she walked on stage wearing a Motley Crew t-shirt.  In support of her sophomore album, Shake the Spirit, her setlist focused on songs from the new album which was released on October 19, 2018.  She started out the night with “Baby Outlaw”.  However, she did sprinkle in a few from the debut album, Love Stuff, as well.  Her voice was amazing, along with her energy throughout the night. Being an all-ages show, King made several comments on how nice it was to see all the variety of people at her show.  Although prior to playing, “It Girl”, she did make a reference about the younger members of the audience hearing her song.  As the night wrapped up, the original set list was supposed to wrap up the show with her two Grammy nominated song, “Ex’s & Oh’s,” followed by  her current single, “Little Bit of Lovin'”.  Unfortunately, during the middle of  “Little Bit of Lovin'”, a fight started in toward the front of the audience which distracted from the show.  However, King handled it with class as she did an impromptu modification of the words and said “No” to the fighting and it was a place of love.  As a added bonus for the fans, she came back out for one more song, as she covered Etta James’ “Feel Like Breaking Up Somebody’s Home.”

Chicago area fans have one more opportunity to catch Elle King live.  As part of Chicago alternative radio station, 101.1 WKQX, The Nights We Stole Christmas, Elle King is on the line up for Night 4 at the Aragon Ballroom which includes Death Cab for Cutie, @elleking and lovelytheband. Don’t miss out.
