On February 2, 2018, Front Row Music News took to the road for a 160-mile trip from Chicago to Wings Event Center in Kalamazoo, MI for night one of Umphrey’s McGee’s performance. Opening up for the first of two nights at the West Michigan venue was The Marcus King Band. Highlights of the night’s performance included: “Ain’t Nothin’ Wrong with That,” “Keep Moving” and “Boone”. There was even some classic metal with their cover of Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs.”

Formed in 2013, The Marcus King Band describe themselves as a “soul-influenced psychedelic southern rock” band out of Greenville, South Carolina. Alongside singer and blazing guitarist, Marcus King, the band includes Jack Ryan on drums and percussion, Stephen Campbell on bass, Dean Mitchell on saxophone, and Justin Johnson on trumpet, trombone and backing vocals, along with DeShawn Alexander on keys. They released their debut album, Soul Insight on October 30, 2015 via Evil Teen Records. In October 2016, the band’s sophomore album, The Marcus King Band, was released October 7, 2016. Most recently, the band issued an EP entitled Due North with four songs on October 27 through Fantasy Records.

The Marcus King Band has announced that they will support Tedeschi Trucks Band and The Drive-By Truckers on TTB’s “Wheels Of Soul” 2018 tour this summer.
