Thrice at House of Blues in Chicago

October 12, 2018, the Epitaph Tour brought us the Thrice headlining with punk rock openers, The Bronx, to the House of Blues in Chicago.

The Bronx’s high energy SoCal punk sound, fronted by Matt Caughthran was a great primer for the upcoming Thrice set. Matt encouraged a few circle pits, and he even performed in the center of one for a few minutes mid set.

I last saw Thrice in December 2017, for their show at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. Since then, they have been busy, announcing signing to Epitaph Records this past summer. In addition, they released their first single, “The Grey”. Just ove a month ago, Thrice released their newest album, Palms. Fans were thrilled to see them return to one of Chicago’s favorite venues for their sold out performance. Dustin Kensrue led us flawlessly through 21 songs, including 6 from the new album. Teppei Teranishi’s lead guitar work is complex and intricate making it as much of signature of the band as Kensrue’s vocal work and the bands meaningful lyric content. Thrice saved two special songs for their encore, “Deadbolt” and “To Awake and Avenge the Dead”.

If Thrice has somehow not been on your radar since their inception in 1998, check out their website for the next time they will be in your area for a show. For more Thrice information visit the official Thrice website: Thrice.net
