The lyrics for “Into the Ocean”, were very apropo for the afternoon’s performance by Blue October. “Let the rain of what I feel right now come down. Let the rain come down.”

On Saturday, June 15, 2019, Chicago’s alternative rock station, 101.1 WKQX, brought the annual PIQNIQ to Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre in Tinley Park, IL. Despite the rain, concert goers where there early geared up in their rain attire. Closing out the afternoon on the St. Xavier stage was Blue October.

Hailing from Houston, Texas, the American alternative rock band was formed in 1995. Currently, Blue October’s line-up includes: Justin Furstenfeld on lead vocals and guitar; Jeremy Furstenfeld on drums and percussion; Ryan Delahoussaye on violin/viola, mandolin, piano, and backing vocals; Matt Noveskey on bass guitar, backing vocals; and Will Knaak on lead guitar.  The band is supporting their most ninth studio album release, “I Hope You’re Happy,” which was released on August 17, 2018. 

Most artist would load their show with songs from their most recent release.  Although their set was short, Blue October mixed up the setlist to include songs for both long time, as well as first time fans, and any in between.   Starting out with “Say It” off their 2009 release Approaching Normal,  both “Into the Ocean” and “Hate Me” off their fifth album, Foiled which was released in 2006. Off their 2016 release, Home, was “Coal Makes Diamonds” and “Leave It In The Dressing Room (Shake It Up)” which really got the audience jumping.  The only two songs included from their the 2018 release were “Daylight” and the album titled song, “I Hope You’re Happy”. Overall, the band brought high energy to the inclement Chicago weather and left many fans wanting more.
