City and Colour

On the evening of May 5th, indie-folk group City and Colour (led by Dallas Green) made their second stop on their spring tour. The tour is in support of their seventh studio album, The Love Still Held Me Near at The Sylvee in Madison, Wisconsin. In 2022, Front Row Music News caught City and Colour outside of Chicago at Sacred Rose Festival.

Frontman Dallas Green

Frontman Dallas Green has been playing music for the majority of his life, although it has taken different forms throughout the years. Originally entering into the hardcore scene as a member of Alexisonfire in 2001, the group disbanded a decade later with Green choosing to focus his efforts on the more soulful, acoustic project.

Since its inception, City and Colour has put out seven studio albums. In Dallas Green’s most recent release, The Love Still Held Me Near ponders the death of one of his close friends and the contours of the grief that follow.

Opener: Courtney Marie Andrews

American singer-songwriter, Courtney Marie Andrews, opened up the show with dainty vocals and beautiful instrumentals. She is comparable to female indie icons such as Feist and Florence + The Machine. Her most recent album, Loose Future, was released in 2022.

Headliner-City and Colour

City and Colour entered the stage to excited cheers, launching into the first song off of their new album, “Meant to Be”. With brief interactions with the crowd peppered into the show, (including Green sharing with the audience that this was his very first visit to Madison!) the rest of the night was pure musical storytelling, featuring songs from various albums.
