Echosmith at Park West in Chicago 2020
On February 20, 2020, multi-platinum alt-pop indie rock trio, Echosmith, brought the North American 2020 Tour, Lonely Generation, to Chicago, along with supporting artists, Weathers and Jayden Bartels. Echosmith started the tour on February 12th in Washington, DC, visiting major cities from coast to coast before wrapping in Los Angeles on March 5th. The tour is in support of their sophomore studio album, Lonely Generations, which was release on January 10, 2020 via Echosmith Music LLC.
“Lonely Generation is the most personal thing we’ve ever released. We explore coming of age (all the good, scary and confusing things that come with that), discovering who we are as individuals, and falling in love. This sophomore album has been years in the making, but those have been some of the most important years of our lives. We want every single person who listens, to feel a little better about whatever it is that they’re going through, even if it’s because of the simple fact that none of us are alone. I hope our fans get to see themselves in these lyrics and get to know us better at the same time,” says Sydney about the album.
Formed in February 2009 in Chino, California, Echosmith currently consists of siblings: Sydney on lead vocals, rhythm guitar, piano and keyboards; Noah on bass, backing vocals, synthesizer and programming; and Graham Sierota on drums, percussion. In addition, the performance includes touring musician, Jacob Evergreen, on guitar, backing vocals.
In support of their most recent album, fans had the opportunity to see the majority of the songs performed live, with the exception of “I Don’t Wanna Lose My Love” as well as “Shut Up and Kiss Me.” The show started out with “Love You Better” off their most recent album and followed up with their single “Diamonds.” One highlight of the night was the performance of “Bright.” Park West is known for its dome with a giant mirrored ball handing in the center. The setting was perfect as the sparkles emitted throughout the venue as Sydney sang:
Did you see that shooting star tonight?
Were you dazzled by the same constellation?
Did you and Jupiter conspire to get me?
I think you and the Moon and Neptune got it right
‘Cause now I’m shining bright, so bright
Bright, so bright
Another key moment from the night included: a solo performance by Sydney of “Follow You/Tell Her You Love Her” in which she explained how two weeks before her wedding, she wrote the song “Follow You” for her husband as a surprise and played it for their first dance. The night ended with their triple-platinum hit, “Cool Kids.”
If you missed this tour, you’ll have another opportunity to catch Echosmith as they join Grammy-Winning duo for King & Country on “For King & Country With Company – A Summer Tour.” Keep up with the latest information and tour dates at: Echosmith.com
