Jeff Lynne’s ELO “The Over and Out Tour”

Jeff Lynne’s ELO embarked on what they say is their final tour. Appropriately titled “The Over and Out Tour,” this highly anticipated 27-date North American trek kicked off in Palm Desert, CA. It made its way to the iconic United Center in Chicago for two nights on September 27 and 28, 2024. As a long-time fan, I was thrilled to secure a ticket in the first row of the upper level, ensuring an unobstructed view of the show’s spectacular light extravaganza. The atmosphere buzzed with excitement as the crowd eagerly awaited a setlist promising a nostalgic journey through Lynne’s legendary catalog.

THE SHOW

Rooney

Rooney opened the show with their infectious energy and charm, quickly capturing the audience’s attention. Their performance was peppered with anecdotes, including a playful dedication of “I Should’ve Been After You” to Abe Froman, the Sausage King of Chicago, a delightful nod to Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. The band shared their roots as the Ed Rooney Band, named after the iconic principal from the same film, creating a warm connection with the Chicago crowd. Also, the front man humorously recounted how his older brother’s alarm clock disrupted his mornings, blaring far too early for “Telephone Line.” Their engaging stage presence set a fantastic tone for the evening.

When Jeff Lynne’s ELO took the stage, the energy in the arena reached new heights. The setlist featured a glorious mix of classics, including “Evil Woman,” “Livin’ Thing,” and, of course, the ultimate crowd-pleaser, “Mr. Blue Sky.” Each song was met with cheers and sing-alongs, showcasing Lynne’s mastery of timeless melodies. The visual presentation was stunning, with lights dancing in sync with the music, creating an immersive experience that kept fans entranced.
