Jimmy Eat World at Riviera Theatre in Chicago
May 8th brought Jimmy Eat World into the city for an amazing 21 song set at the Riviera Theatre in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood. The band hails from Mesa, Arizona and has been going strong since their 1993 inception. The four piece band has achieved quite a bit of commercial success. Four singles from the 2001 release, Bleed American made it to the Top 20 Alternative Charts, including their song,”The Middle”, reaching the number one spot. Their 2004 follow up album, Futures, gave us another chart topper, “Pain”, and between the two releases they sold over 1.5 million copies. Chase This Light, came out in 2007 and has been their highest charting album to date. Currently, they are touring in support of their most recent album, Integrity Blues released on October 21, 2016, by RCA Records.
Their stage setup was pretty bare save for a few street lamps, a branded banner, and a full light show.Jimmy Eat World opened the show with a track off their most recent album, Integrity Blues, “Sure and Certain”. From there they took us on a musical journey back and fourth seamlessly through their 9 studio albums. Everyone in the theatre knew every word,and the atmosphere was charged as we all waited for our favorite songs to start. The band did not disappoint, and saved the crowd favorites for their three song encore. My personal favorite, “A Praise Chorus” was first, followed by. “Sweetness”, and finally,”The Middle”, closed out the night.
