Smith & Myers at Radius Chicago 2021
On December 16, 2021, Shinedown front man Brent Smith and guitarist Zach Myers, as duo Smith & Myers, returned to perform at one of the newest venues in Chicago. Located in East Pilsen area, Radius Chicago opened in the late winter of 2020 and has a capacity from 2,500 to 3,800 guests. Despite it being a Thursday night, Chicago was ready for a great show and Smith & Myers were the duo to give it to them!
The current tour is in support of Smith & Myers’ 2020 double albums, Volume 1 and Volume 2 via Atlantic Records. Last year, Smith & Myers performed their Record Release Party at Lakeshore Drive-In in Chicago, IL where only a couple hundred carloads of people were able to attend due to Chicago pandemic restricts. Although 2021 pandemic restrictions still exist to keep artists, fans and staff safe, restrictions have eased allowing indoor venues like Radius Chicago to host a great crowd for Smith & Myers.
As in every Smith & Myers show, Myers tailored the setlist for the city and with his love for Chicago, it seemed that he put a little extra effort into the setlist. Myers had quite a large volume of songs to choose from with a mixture of their original songs, as well as covers from Volume 1 and Volume 2, along with the vast volume of songs from Shinedown,. In addition, he threw in a couple surprises in the mix.
- Opening artists, Zack Mack and JR Moore of Allen Mack Myers & Moore, put on a great set, then jumped on stage to support Smith & Myers on quite a few songs.
- The friendship between Smith & Myers. A quote from Smith which said it all, “…two creative projects with my best friend,” and “My gift to you tonight Chicago, is Mr. Zach Myers.”
- Myers played a song as “One of the best songs written in the last 20 years and it only came out about 10 years ago”. “All the girls are gonna love it. I Promise.” The song was a Taylor Swift cover of All Too Well.
- A handful of favorite songs off Smith & Myers Volume 1, including: “Not Mad Enough”, “Bad Guy”, “Bad at Love”
- Shinedown’s songs: “Atlas Falls”, “Second Chance”, and “Sound of Madness”
- Fan favorite cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s, “Simple Man”
- For Chicago, a special performance of John Prine cover “Angel from Montgomery”
- Finale, “In the Air Tonight”
If you haven’t caught Smith & Myers, you’re missing a treat. Also, look forward to 2022 Shinedown tour.
