Sum 41 “Order in Decline” at The Vic Theatre in Chicago
On Sunday, October 6th 2019, as fall began settling in over Chicagoland, many found their way to the Vic Theatre for the Sum 41 concert. After a last minute change of location, fans who had arrived at the show were brimming with excitement. Front Row Music News covered the rockin performances of Sum 41 over the past couple years (2017 Lancaster, PA, 2017 101WKQX PIQNIQ Chicago, 2018 Chicago) and a 2019 show was no exception. For the show, Sum 41 have partnered with PLUS1 so that $1 from every ticket goes to War Child to support children and families in communities affected by war throughout the world www.warchildusa.org
As the clock struck 6:45 pm in Chicago, Amity Affliction was ready to greet the eager fans. Formed in 2003 out of Gympie, Queensland, the Australian metalcode band hit the stage with “Drag the Lake” off their most recent album Misery. Amity Afflication found their groove quickly following their first song up with “All My Friends Are Dead” their most recently released single. Amity Afflication brought tons of energy, repeatedly getting fans in the mix by mirroring their hands back and forth with the lead singer Joel Birch. Amity ended their set with “Pittsburgh” off Let The Ocean Take Me.
The headliner for the night and final act was Sum 41. The supporting bands did a great job of getting the crowd fired up and Sum 41 just kept that train rolling. They began the set with “The Hell Song” off their 2002 album Does This Look Infected?. Sum 41 was able to play an amazing 21 song set that went through a myriad of their best albums such as All Killer No Filler, Does This Look Infected, Chuck, Underclass Hero, Order in Decline. Sum 41 also did a sensational cover of Queens “We Will Rock You” that rocked the Vic Theatre. My favorite songs of the night had to be the closing of the first encore with “Fat Lip” off All Killer No Filler and the hair metal rendition of “Pain for Pleasure” that ended the night off. The crowd left with messy hair and ringing ears, the only way to leave a true rock concert.
