US & Canada 2024 Tour

On the evening of March 7th, Two Door Cinema Club with support from Joywave made a stop in Chicago at the Riviera Theatre on their current US & Canada 2024 Tour. With two power players in the indie space taking the stage that evening, the venue was filling up with an excited crowd.

Two Door Cinema Club

Two Door Cinema Club is an indie-pop band that rose to major popularity in the early 2010s. Hailing from Northern Ireland, the group released their first album Tourist History with a French record label in 2010. Songs “Something Good Can Work” and “What You Know” saw great success, becoming a staple on every indie-pop fan’s playlist during the time. Since the 2010s, Two Door Cinema Club has put out a variety of albums and songs, most recently releasing the song “Happy Customers” in early March of this year.

Joywave

Indie-rock band Joywave formed in 2010 in Rochester, New York. Since getting together, the group has rocketed to popularity. The music videos for their hits such as “Tongues” and “Dangerous” have millions of views on YouTube and have been featured in video games and commercials. Most recently, Joywave put out their single “Brain Dead” only a couple of days before their stop in Chicago. Check out our post from their 2023 headline Express Wash tour (Link Here).

The Show

Opener Joywave took the stage at 7:15, fifteen minutes earlier than was originally scheduled. Despite the set-time change, the venue was not lacking in fans thrilled to see the group perform. Joywave put on a majorly energized performance. The crowd hung on to lead vocalist Michael Armbruster’s every word as he strutted across the stage. The band did an amazing job of getting the crowd partying and ready for Two Door Cinema Club’s set.

As a fan of Two Door Cinema Club since the early 2010s, I was anxiously awaiting their set to begin. Once they came out on stage and began to play, they did not disappoint. Performing hit after hit, the group’s performance was truly like listening to each of their albums live on stage. Two Door Cinema Club’s musical talent cannot be over-emphasized. Not only did they put on an incredible set, but their collective stage presence was captivating. They even had a live debut of “Happy Customers”, to the cheers of everyone in the crowd. Every single person in the audience was dancing and singing along, having the time of their lives.

Conclusion

The Two Door Cinema Club and Joywave concert in Chicago was unforgettable. Joywave kicked things off with an unexpected early start, delivering a fantastic set that perfectly set the tone for the evening. Then, Two Door Cinema Club brought us right back to the heyday of the 2010s indie scene, blending nostalgia with their infectious sound. Their performance wasn’t just a concert; it felt like a massive indie party, leaving us with memories we’ll cherish. Truly a standout event!
