Badflower’s No Place Like Home Tour

On September 21, 2024, Badflower’s No Place Like Home Tour made a stop at The Sylvee in Madison, WI, offering an explosive night of alternative rock. The 2024 tour featured special guests Missio and The Keystones, delivering an energetic and captivating lineup for fans. This write-up will dive into the highlights of the Madison show, focusing on each artist’s standout moments.

Missio

Missio is direct support for Badflower’s No Place Like Home Tour. They know exactly how to get the crowd woken up for the headliner. The duo, formed in Austin, Texas, bring their electronic/rock/alternative musical conglomeration with their high energy to get the crowd jumping and singing along to their songs. Front man, David Brue, even creates a softer moment while introducing their song “Sing To Me.” He explained that we all have a piece of our child self that still needs comforting, and even everyone on the stage struggles at times. He reminded the audience that we are all the same, the only thing different from them and the crowd is their jobs.  Find the latest Missio information at: missiomusic.com

The Keystones

Up next were The Keystones, a band from Milwaukee. The injected a burst of pure energy into the room. Their indie rock sound is a perfect mix of catchy hooks and upbeat riffs. The group showcased their rising talent with songs that felt fresh yet familiar, leaving an undeniable impact on the crowd. Their ability to engage the audience with their infectious energy made for a memorable performance. Keep up with The Keystones at: thekeystones.net

Badflower

Then, it was time for the headliners, Badflower. Badflower are no strangers to Madison, WI – having headlined The Sylvee last year, along with a couple other visits to the city in the past. We’ve had the pleasure of seeing a few times in the past as well. When you’re done here, check out our previous Badflower posts: 2022, 2019 and 2017.

Opening up their set with one of their brand new songs, “Teacher Has a Gun,” and flowing through the night with songs and emotions of rage and frustration to sad and hopeless. With hits like “Ghost” and “Heroin,” they tackled dark, introspective themes that resonated deeply with the audience. Front man, Josh Katz and the band delivered their signature mix of intense vulnerability and hard-hitting rock. Their live performance remains raw and honest, making it clear why they’ve earned such a loyal following.

As the beginning words of their song “Stalker” ring through the venue, everyone was on their tip-toes awaiting to see what unique antics Josh Katz would bring to the show. During the song, he makes his way down to the front row, into the crowd, and then eventually up in the balcony. While in the balcony, Katzs mentions he wants to acknowledge someone in the crowd – the man standing next to him. Katz introduces the man as Dennis, saying he was like a father to him and that he never missed a show. He then asks the entire crowd to sing him happy birthday. As the song finishes, Josh says that before he “gets back into character,” he wanted to say one more thing…that he’d never met this man in his life! Laughter and smiles erupted throughout the venue as the man introduced himself properly to the crowd – his name is actually David, and he just happened to be in the random lucky seat that night for Josh to prank the crowd.

The softer, prouder moments like during “Move Me,” where the crowd cheered during a pause in the song, causing Katz to stand and smile as he soaked in the moment. Madison definitely wants Badflower to come back again.

Conclusion

The night closed on a high note, with Badflower leaving the Madison audience thoroughly satisfied. The combination of Missio’s emotionally charged set, The Keystones’ infectious energy, and Badflower’s powerful performance made it a night to remember.
