BØRNS at The Metro in Chicago
On June 21st, 2016, BØRNS graced Chicago with his presence at The Metro, a legendary club in the city. Hailing from the Midwest, Garrett Borns was well received on stage as fans had anxiously been waiting. He looks like a heart throb straight out of The Virgin Suicides. He has long wavy hair, a towering stature, and was dressed like a 70’s rock star. Never seeing him before, I was unsure what to expect but was impressed by the way demurely sang us his songs. There were teen age girls in the front row trying to hand the singer a little Polaroid camera, which he took a selfie with and handed back to the fans, who were completely beside themselves. He did it all with a grace and suaveness that reminded me of the way Lana Del Rey performs. Subtle, but impactful.
BØRNS performed his original songs but had sprinkled in a variety of covers, “Shoplifters Of The World Unite” by the Smiths, “Bennie and the Jets” by Sir Elton John, and closed out his set with “Heroes” by David Bowie. The Bowie cover seemed very fitting for BØRNS , his songs are reminiscent of the legendary Bowie.
Be sure to check him out on his current tour, you can see dates here.
