The six-piece, Alabama soul-rock group, St. Paul and the Broken Bones, returned to Chicago-area for a two-night concert experience on November 17-18, 2017. The Friday night performance was at Thalia Hall and Saturday night at FitzGerald’s Nightclub. The events’ goal was to raise vital funds needed for the Oak Park River Forest Food Pantry to help end local hunger. 100% of the night’s proceeds went directly benefit the nearly 50,000 individuals served each year at Oak Park River Forest Food Pantry. The band even donated an autographed guitar which was auctioned off prior to their set at the sold out Thalia Hall.

Opening up the first night was Skyway Man, a psychedelic rock, gospel noise band out of Nashville, TN. Skyway Man describe their music as, “the music you want playing on the radio, when you kiss someone for the first or last time, and then lightning strikes and the radio explodes.”

St. Paul and the Broken Bones got the spirit going right away as Vocalist, Paul Janeway started preaching “Crumbling Light Posts.” The soul continued to roll as As they went into “Flow with It” was next. The set list included a mix of songs from each of their two albums: Half the City (2014) and Sea of Noise (2016). The set included other songs such as “Grass is Greener,” “Sanctify,” “Broken Bones & Pocket Change,” and “Call Me.” As the night came to a close with “It’s Midnight”, it left the audience praying for even more and hoping the band will be back in Chicago soon. Janeway even made hint to some possible new music coming in the future. We’ll just have to hope and pray that comes soon.
