2018 101WKQX PIQNIQ

On Saturday, June 30, 2018, Chicago’s alternative rock station, 101.1 WKQX, brought the annual PIQNIQ to Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre in Tinley Park, IL. With the temperature in the mid-90’s, there was a definite concern about heat exhaustion. What’s a great way to handle extreme heat?  Bring out the fire hose and spray some water!  It definitely helped cool down a bunch of the audience. Fan’s took advantage of some of the other activities available, including bags at the Saint Xavier University tent, as well as bows and arrows with Safe Archery by Legacy Adventure Park.  Also, you couldn’t attend PIQNIQ without grabbing one of the Saint Xavier University PIQNIQ bandannas. Some fans even made their own fun by doing flips over the picnic bench.

Even with all the additional fun available, music was the real reason people were there.  The one-day music festival’s line-up originally included 10 bands, performing on two stages at Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre in Tinley Park, IL.  However, a few days prior to the event, Greta Van Fleet announcement that drummer, Danny Wagner, sustained an injury that caused the band to miss this year’s PIQNIQ. Although it was a crush to no longer have them in the line-up, the remaining 9 artists performance made for an amazing night.  The radio stations DJ’s like Lauren (my favorite because she always has a minute to give me a hug), Kevin, Brian and  Walt (of last years PIQNIQ artist, Stabbing Westward) more, were out in force introducing the bands.  The Saint Xavier University Stage (Side Stage) included: Marina City, L.I.F.T., Welshly Arms and The Front Bottoms, while the Main Stage included: Bishop Briggs, The Neighbourhood, Bush, Dashboard Confessionals and headline artist, AWOLNATION. There were so many highlights in the performances that night.

101.1 WKQX always put together a great line-up of artists and we can’t wait to see who the line-up will include for 2019. Don’t forget to check back at 101.1 WKQX website for the latest information at: http://www.101wkqx.com/.
