Joywave at The Rave / Eagles Club in Milwaukee 2023

On Tuesday, April 11, 2023, Joywave played only for the second time at The Rave in Milwaukee. However, this time around they came as the headliner on their Express Wash tour with supporting artists Elliot Lee and Dizzy. The attention to details shined through this tour – with a keyboard built into the “trunk” of a car. Also, rather than a car wash cycle indicator board, Joywave’s signs would light up with the album title of each song they would perform.

About half way through the set, front man, Daniel Armbruster asked the crowd to close their eyes and pretend that it was 2015 again.  A time when Coronavirus did not exist, simplistic times, and the year that Joywave released their first album! This nostalgic break was followed by a couple of songs from their breakthrough album, “How Do You Feel Now?”

Also, they performed a song from Armbruster’s pandemic project called Best Frenz which he and Jason Suwito of Sir Sly created together. In addition, they performed “Dangerous,” Joywave’s song with Big Data. “Dangerours” has been played by astronauts while they have been in space – this song also required 3 bass guitars to perform it!

And to end the night, we were treated with a “Double Destruction” – in earlier years, if the crowd was not jumping with enough energy, Joywave would continuously play their song “Destruction” until the crowd lived up to their expectations. Now, a Double Destruction is given as a reward – the crowd is energetic enough that they play the exact same song twice in a row!
