Overview

With the initial announcement of Sacred Rose Festival back in March of 2022, the over five months wait seemed to take forever.  Even back then, I knew, Sacred Rose Fest 2022 – Day 1, was the day I wanted to attend. However, in a blink of an eye, the first Sacred Rose Festival has come and gone. On August 26-28, 2022, the fest took place on the SeatGeek Stadium Campus.  The three-day festival was located just 30 minutes outside downtown Chicago in the southwest suburb of Bridgeview.  The hours of the festival were from noon to midnight Friday and Saturday and noon to 11 p.m. Sunday. 

Sacred Rose is about the love of music, inspired by the halcyon days of the 60s counterculture concerts and playful hippie spirit. The name pays homage to both Sacred Rose founder Michael Berg’s own professional pianist Grandfather, and The Grateful Dead, the progenitors of this culture.

With three different stages: The Dreamfield, The Vega and The Canopy, the cross-genre music festival provided top-tier production with an eclectic lineup of Americana, Psych-rock, Jam, Indie, Soul, Funk, and Bluegrass. In all, the fest catered towards “music heads who craved live performance mastery.”

Sacred Rose Fest 2022 – Day 1

Due to prior booking, Front Row Music News only requested to attend Sacred Rose Fest 2022 – Day 1 of the festival. Specifically, the first day was chosen because of the one two punches of a favorite band, St. Paul & the Broken Bones, followed by the Black Pumas.  I’m sure many Black Pumas fans were sad to hear they made the difficult decision to cancel the rest of their tour, which included their performance at Sacred Rose.  In addition, shortly before their expected set, Animal Collective needed to cancel because Avey Tare lost his voice and was unable to sing.  Both cancellations were out of Sacred Rose’s control, but still disappointing.  With 14 remaining artists on Friday night, I was able to spend a few songs at each artist and capture the energy of each of them.  Here’s the lineup of artists by stage and links to find out tour dates and general information:

Other Stuff

• Special Guest Margo Price was “Artist at Large”.  I was able to catch her perform with Sierra Hull, as well as close out the night with Phil Lesh & Friends
• SeatGeek Stadium’s sports dome was converted into a “laser dome” with laser lights, DJ sets, and little shade and A/C to get out of the heat.
• Audio Taping for personal, noncommercial use of music was allowed at Sacred Rose (no video).
• No muddy festival floor or asphalt driveway to stand on since there were brand-new padded astroturf fields

Conclusion: Sacred Rose Fest 2022 – Day 1

In conclusion, Sacred Rose Fest 2022 – Day 1 (since that was the only day I was able to attend this year) was a success in my eyes.  It brought a great collection of artists together in one location.  In one day, I was able to see 14 amazing artists performing.  I don’t think you can ask for more.  We’ll be looking the 2^nd Annual Sacred Rose Festival in 2023.
