For the seventh year, 101WKQX presented its concert series, “The Nights We Stole Christmas.” Like 2018, the 2018 version of TNWSC was included five nights, but this year, they were consecutive.  When 101WKQX started teasing “The Best… Christmas… E V E R!!” And they delivered! The announcement was “So huge, you’re gonna need a bigger tree.”  The lineup for the five nights included:

  • 12/11 NIGHT 1: Cage the Elephant | Angels and Airways | The Federal Empire
  • 12/12 NIGHT 2: 1975 | Bob Moses | Alan Rayman
  • 12/13 NIGHT 3: twenty-one pilots | I Don’t Know How But They Found Be
  • 12/14 NIGHT 4: Mumford and Sons | Local Natives
  • 12/15 NIGHT 5: 311 | Highly Suspect | The Glorious Sons

Presale tickets went on sale on Monday, September 9 and within a few hours, twenty-one pilots and Mumford and Sons were sold out. All shows sold out prior to show week, except for Night 5, which was hard to believe, since the line for that night included three solid performers. Front Row Music News chose to cover the final night of TNWSC.

Formed in 1990 out of Omaha, Nebraska, 311 now resides in Southern California.  Currently the band includes: singer/guitarist Nick Hexum; singer SA Martinez; guitarist Tim Mahoney; drummer Chad Sexton; and bassist P-Nut.  311 is supporting their 13th studio album, Voyager” which was recently released on July 12, 2019 via BMG.

After two prior “Holiday run” shows in St. Louis and Minneapolis, 311 was ready to headline night 5 of 101WKQX’s “The Nights We Stole Christmas” in Chicago for their third and last holiday show. In addition, this show was the last one of the decade for 311. Despite having a new album, the set list included a good mixture of songs through their career. Highlights included Top 10 radio hits, “Beautiful Disaster,” “All Mixed Up,” “Love Song,” “Come Original,” “Amber” and “Down.” The show closed out with Hexum wearing a Cubs jersey, a room full of huge bouncy balls, and 311 performing “Creatures (For a While)” off the 2003 release Evolver. It was definitely a party to end the 2010s.

With the wrap-up of the amazing 2019 lineup, what will 101WKQX offer the world for 2020 TNWSC? Find out next fall at 101WKQX website: 101wkqx.com.
