House of Vans is always killing the game with artist collaborations and they did not miss the mark with their most recent event, Customade by Chaz Bear and Company Studio. On January 24th Chaz Bundick, better known as Chaz Bear of Toro y Moi hosted an immersive art experience at House of Vans featuring what I liked to think of as his own brand of 90’s psychedelic art and DJ set. The DJ sets were accompanied by famed analog visual artist Mad Alchemy.

The entire night felt wonderfully like a mash up of a rave scene from Berlin in the 90’s and a rock concert from the 70’s. The wilder the outfit the better-we saw everything from a tank top made entirely of stuffed animals to Noelle Gallagher style bucket hats to chunky shoes a la Spice Girls. Mad Alchemy’s live liquid projections were behind A. Ferraro and Chaz Bears DJ sets as well as projected on the walls which made the entire space feel like you stepped inside a Rick and Morty- esque space portal of beautiful flowers and colorful liquids.

Take a peek at the photos because no words can do this experience justice. We look forward to the next House of Vans wild and wonderful event and already can’t wait to catch Chaz Bear next time he rolls through Chicago!
