Hella Mega Tour: Green Day, Fall Out Boy & Weezer – Jacksonville, FL

It’s been a long time since September 20, 2019, the day that the Hella Mega Tour tickets went to the general public and fans purchased their tickets. With the postponement of the tour in 2020 due to the pandemic, fans were more than ready for this Hella Mega Tour. On July 31, 2021, the show tickets finally used to see the show. Despite the high temperature for that day, fans dealt with the summer heat to see four great bands and one Hella awesome concert.

First out playing on this very hot night and get the crowd even more warmed up then they already were, The Interrupters. They put on a great show and played some great songs, including: “Take Back the Power”, “She Got Arrested”, and “Gave You Everything”. A surprise was their cover of “Bad Guy” by Billie Eilish. Closing out their set, with “She’s Kerosene” which hit number 4 on Billboard’s Alternative Songs chart. I would love to see them again someday during a headline tour where they do a longer set.

Next up, formed in Los Angeles, California in 1992 was Weezer. They really got the crowd jumping and you could tell that there were a lot of Weezer fans early as they were singing to every song. Favorite songs included: “Undone – Sweater Song”, “Hash Pipe”, “Beverly Hills”, and closed out with one of my favorite songs by them, “Buddy Holly”.

Next up on this amazingly hot, but awesome lineup was a band formed in 2001 out of a Chicago suburb called Wilmett was Fall Out Boy. Coming out on stage, they came with plenty of energy and plenty of pyro for everyone to enjoy. Even the base player got into the act with fire coming out of the end of his guitar, which is the first time I have ever seen something like that. They played some of their greatest hits such as “The Phoenix”, “Centuries”, and “Dance Dance”. They finished up their set, to the cheers of many long time fans, with “Saturday” off the band’s debut album, Take This to Your Grave.

Headlining the night was the veteran band on the line-up, Green Day. Green Day was formed in 1987 in the East Bay of California. Starting out their set with one of their most popular songs, “American Idiot”, they continued to get the crowd involved and played so many of their most popular songs, such as “Holiday”, “21 Guns”, “Basket Case”, as well as playing their brand new song, “Pollyanna”. In addition, the threw in “Rock and Roll All Nite”, a cover by KISS. The night exploded with fireworks and confetti during the song, “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)”

After waiting almost two years since tickets went on sale to see the tour, it was definitely worth the wait and I am sure the 35,000-40,000 people in attendance would have said the same thing. Don’t miss this opportunity to see some great bands on a great tour!!
