On Friday April 23, singer, songwriter, rapper and actor, Colson Baker, AKA Machine Gun Kelly (MGK), kicked off the start of Daily’s Place 2021 concert season, as well as their first open air full capacity, live concert hosted there since the start of the Covid pandemic in 2020.

Before the night started, DJ E-V pumped up the crowd before Machine Gun Kelly jumped on stage. As everyone was ready for concerts to come back, the audience continued to get louder and louder in anticipation for MGK. When he came out on stage, Daily’s Place never seemed to be louder with screaming fans. With his actual birthday the prior day, MGK was ready to celebrate his 31st birthday with the sold out crowd.

Machine Gun Kelly started the night’s setlist with “Title Track”, which is the first song off his fifth studio album, Tickets to My Downfall, released through Bad Boy Records and Interscope Records on September 25, 2020. He followed up right into “Kiss Kiss” which is the second song off the recent album. After a third song off the new album, “Concert For Aliens”, he stopped and wanted to celebrate his birthday with a piñata. He brought a fan up on the edge of the stage stage and told her, “This is kind of risky move. I don’t think I should do this, but I need you to hold it over your head. I’m just gonna aim really good, okay.” “This might be a bad idea. I don’t think it is though”. With the microphone on the end of the stand, he counted down with the audience, “3 – 2 – 1”, then take a swing at the piñata, removing it’s head. Although he hit it, nothing came out. “Let’s just do this the old fashioned way,” throwing it down to the ground, then ripping it apart by hand, with candy falling out of onto the stage.

After the birthday celebration, he sang “Drunk Face,” then said, “You know what I’d like for my birthday?” proceeded to perform “Candy” as he walked out into the audience and throughout the venue. Singing, “Jacksonville how you feel… Jacksonville how you feel… No matter what happens tonight, just promise me this is the best night of 2021 yet! That’s all I’m asking!” For the fans at Daily’s Place, it was. “Jacksonville… You’re in my heart forever!” During the night, he also played smash hits “My Ex’s Best Friend” and “I Think I’m OKAY”, Paramore cover “Misery Business”, as well as the latest single, “Daywalker”, which was also the first time they played it live at a venue.

Overall, it was a great night and really the first big concert to come back in this area. The audience was definitely excited to be back. The show was an amazing start to many big acts to follow at Daily’s Place, as well as across the world.
