On Wednesday, May 9, 2018, as The Struts, began their third song of the night, “One Night Only,” the lead singer, Luke Spiller, exclaimed to the Chicago audience, “Here we are again! Are you ready for one of the greatest nights of your lives?” And the Metro audience cheered, “YEAH!” As the band neared the end of the song, Spiller sang, “If entertainment is what you want, Chicago, I’m the best!” which fans erupted in agreement.

Chicago’s alternative radio station, 101WKQX, welcomed the British rockers back to Chicago for the mid-week concert at The Metro. 101WKQX have a relationship with The Struts, as they performed for the radio station’s, The Night’s We Stole Christmas concert in 2015.

Out of Derby, Derbyshire, The Struts, were formed in 2010. The band members include: Luke Spiller on lead vocals; Adam Slack on guitar and backing vocals; Jed Elliott on bass guitar and backing vocals; and Gethin Davies on drums and percussion. With a busy 2018 schedule, which includes shows as the support for the Foo Fighters and Jimmy Eat World, The Struts are out on a short headlining tour across the U.S. The tour started on April 24 in Florida and end almost one month later on May 23 in Portland, Oregon. Along for support were Spirit Animal and The Glorious Sons.

There were so many highlights throughout the performance. Just picking out a few of the highlights was a challenge. From start to finish the energy of the show had the audience singing and dancing all night long. Spiller mentioned that the band had just finished their second album and wanted to share a new song called, “Primadonna Like Me” which was a “jumping song.” Also, he said, “We wanted to do something a little different, as a special thank you from us to yourselves,” then went on to cover Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing in the Dark.” The only down point of the night was when Spiller had to address a disagreement (fight?) occurring in the audience in front of him. After gracefully asking them to stop, “… because this is a room where we’re all equal,” he asked, “Can we get on with it?” The set concluded with “Put Your Money on Me.” Just before the encore, Spiller said, “I guess we can play you one more song.” Although it was “only one night,” it was definitely a night to remember.
