On October 9, 2020, lifelong musicians, longstanding friends, and eternal brothers, Brent Smith and Zach Myers, as duo Smith & Myers, kicked off a string of October Drive-In shows. Coinciding with the release of their first full-length album, Smith & Myers Volume 1, via Atlantic Records, the first show was the Record Release Party and took place at Lakeshore Drive-In in Chicago, IL. On October 23rd, Smith & Myers will release their follow up full-length album, Smith & Myers Volume 2, via Atlantic Records. As one-half of multiplatinum band Shinedown, Smith and Myers can often be found topping the rock charts, earning mainstream recognition, and playing to sold-out arenas around the globe with 10 million albums and 10 million singles sold worldwide, 14 platinum and gold singles, five platinum and gold albums, more than 2.7 billion streams and 16 number one rock hits (breaking the record for the most ever #1s in the 39-year history of the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs Chart with their single “Atlas Falls”). The set list included a mixture of classic Shinedown songs, new Smith and Myers releases, as well as various covers. Throughout the night, banter with the audience kept the show interactive. Highlights of the show included:
  • Opening artists, Zack Mack and JR Moore of Allen Mack Myers & Moore, helped out Smith & Myers on several songs.
  • A live debut of “Valerie” as opening song of the set
  • A handful of songs off Smith & Myers Volume 1, including:  “Not Mad Enough”, “Panic”, as well as their cover of INXS’ “Never Tear Us Apart”
  • Shinedown’s songs: “Cut the Cord”, “Atlas Falls”, “Get Up”, “State of My Head”, “Second Chance” and “Bully”
  •  A cover of Shinedown’s cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s, “Simple Man”
  • A special duet performance of “Angel from Montgomery” by Zach Myers and his wife, Bethany Lynn Myers.
  •  An energetic finale of Shinedown’s, “Sound of Madness”
  • Smith ended the night with his trademark statement, “It’s never goodbye, just ‘til next time!”
For many fans, this was their experience to an in-person live performance this year.  Lakeshore Drive-In created a space for music fans to get back to enjoying live entertainment safely.  It was definitely something they needed, and Smith and Myer filled a void that we were missing.
