On December 3, 2021, the Alabama born, Nashville-based singer-songwriter, Anderson East brought the Maybe We Never Die Tour to The Vic Theatre in Chicago. Opening up the night in Chicago was fellow Nashville resident Savannah Conley.

The tour supports his most recent album, Maybe We Never Die, which released on August 20, 2021 via Elektra / Low Country Sound. Excited fans have been waiting since 2019 for Anderson East to return to touring. Unfortunately, in January 2020, the Anderson East and Foy Vance 12 Rounds Tour was canceled. In the meantime, fans kept happy with the May 2019 live album release, Alive in Tennessee, recorded at the Ryman Auditorium, along with his 2018 studio album, Encore.

For those lucky enough to purchase the Anderson East Pre-Show Experience, the exclusive, limited package included: – One general admission ticket
– Early venue entry
– Exclusive pre-show Q&A with Anderson East
– Intimate pre-show acoustic performance by Anderson East
– Exclusive tour poster signed by Anderson East
– Official pre-show laminate
– Merchandise shopping before doors open to the general public

Just before the start of the show, I spied a sneak peek of the setlist on the stage. As anticipated, the overall show setlist focused on songs from the Maybe We Never Die, giving fans the opportunity to hear and see some of these great new songs performed live.  However, the setlist was a nice mix of favorites from Delilah and Encore as well.

As the house lights went low and the stage turned one, the five band members walked onto stage, followed by Anderson East. The show started strong with fan favorite and single off Encore, “Girlfriend.”  The next five songs were off the new album and were amazing to finally see live. Singles from the most recent album included “Madelyn”, “Drugs” and “Hood of My Car”.

A surprise difference from the original setlist vs what the band actually performed came at the encore. After the band return from a very brief break, instead of performing, “If You Keep Leaving Me” and the Stevie Wonder cover “Heaven Help Us All”, they changed it up with their most popular song on Spotify, “This Too Shall Last.”  It was a great ending to a perfect night of live music.
