On Sunday, September 29, 2019, Dead Poet Society, along with Weathers,  were in support of Badflower’s (see write-up on Badflower) first US headline tour, “OK, I’M SICK”. The tour kicked off at the Bottom Lounge in Chicago.  Dead Poet Society killed it during their performance and did not disappoint the audience.

During the closing that night, Badflower’s lead singer, Josh Katz talked about Dead Poet Society and Weathers with “This is like three bands, I mean we’re okay, but those two… the three bands that are gonna be massively huge, and you got to see them in this tiny room, I think that’s so cool.” He’s right about that.

ABOUT DEAD POET SOCIETY

Dead Poet Society is a three piece band out of Boston, Massachusetts playing fretless instruments that create an uncanny wobble effect, and atypical distortion that sounds more like a vintage synth on steroids than an actual guitar. Their sound is both genre defying and defining. They call it “Sloth Rock”. The band features singer/guitarist Jack Underkofler, guitarist Jack Collins and drummer Will Goodroad.

The group attracted early fan attention with the release of their debut single Sound and Silence in 2014, and saw them gain a growing fanbase with the release of their AXIOM and DEMPSEY EPs that followed.

In 2016 their music was discovered by the influential Mexican blog PepeProblemas. Their review caught the attention of another up and coming rock band Sputnik, who invited DPS to open for them on their national tour of Mexico. The opportunity has lead to more tours south of the border and a rapidly growing fan base that saw the band’s first headline tour of Mexico in the Spring 2019.

October 2018 saw the release of single and video “American Blood,” the first time the band has worked with an outside producer and mixer, Englishman Alex Newport. Alex produced a further five songs that are part of the band’s debut album set for release January 2020. The as yet untitled album includes “.burymewhole.” the first single and video released August 23, 2019

2019 has been the most exciting year yet in the band’s career, starting in February with a 22 date national tour as special guest of Andres, followed by a national headline tour of Mexico and culminating in the fall with finishing their debut album and being special guests of Badflower on their first US headline tour
